Everything a buyer needs to know about premiums, payment, shipping and collection.
Buyer's premium
A buyer's premium is added to the hammer price of every lot: 25% up to € 100,000 and 20% above, VAT included. The premium is shown in your cart and on your invoice before you pay. Lots from the shop at a fixed price carry no premium.
Condition and estimates
Lots are sold as seen, without a guarantee of condition. Each description is written by a specialist and each lot has a condition report; we recommend that you read it, study the photographs and ask us for more detail. Estimates are a guide to the price we expect a lot to reach and are not a valuation.
Payment
Invoices are payable within seven days of the sale. We accept credit and debit cards and bank transfer. Lots are released once the payment has cleared.
Collection
You can collect your lots at the saleroom, 12 Saint James's Place, London, Monday to Friday between 10 am and 4 pm, with the invoice and a photo ID. Please book an appointment for furniture and large items. Lots not collected within fourteen days are moved to storage at the buyer's expense.
Shipping
We pack and ship small objects, silver, jewellery, books and pictures worldwide by insured courier, and arrange specialist carriers for furniture. Shipping is quoted at checkout or on request, and your lots travel only once they are paid for.
VAT and export
Buyers outside the United Kingdom may be exempt from VAT on the premium and, for some lots, on the hammer price when the goods are exported. Ask us before you bid. Some items need an export licence, which we can help you obtain; the buyer is responsible for any import duties.
